| Kettles & Lightbulbs During 2002 Cymdeithas Tai Hafan acquired essential items such as low energy lightbulbs and low energy jug kettles for its tenants and service users through SWALEC’s Community Project. Lightbulbs are available to tenants free of charge (maximum of 4 per tenant) and kettles are available at £2.50 each The above items are subject to availability as the scheme has now ended. All enquiries to be made via your P.C. The Welsh Assembly Government operates a Community Fire Safety Scheme, which aims to reduce injury and loss of life and also damage to property caused by fire. Last year Tai Hafan was awarded money to buy deep fat fryers for tenants to use instead of chips pans. Last year we also had money to buy a supply of fireguards for use by e.g. families with young children – and we still have some fireguards available if anyone needs one. Again, please ask via your PC. This year Tai Hafan has again successfully bid for funds under the Community Fire Safety Scheme. The Fire Service in each area is training Tai Hafan staff throughout Wales to assess the risk from fire for each tenant / service user in her home. Fire Safety Training on each scheme / project will be delivered to tenants / service users by our staff at scheme “get togethers” and each individual will have a risk assessment carried out in her home. We have been given money, by the Welsh Assembly, to buy certain items which will help to reduce the risk from fire (e.g. nite lights, 4 way trailing sockets with surge protection, deep fat fryers, electric grills, thermostatically controlled frying pans) where they are needed. Each tenant will work out, with her PC, a plan for escape from her home if there is a fire. Tenants will hear about this, from their PC’s very soon as we have to complete all the risk assessments by late February. Any ideas tenants may have for other ways to minimise the risks from fire - we would like to hear about them. We may be able to ask for more money next year to extend our fire safety training programme. |
